The mission of the Evander Kane Group is to create opportunities for the African American community to play ice hockey by providing access to facilities, affordable equipment, and proper mentoring needed to play the game.
Evander Kane was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and was named after professional heavyweight boxing champion, Evander Holyfield.
Kane was selected fourth overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2009 NHL draft. Kane made the Thrashers’ lineup out of his first NHL training camp for the 2009–10 season. He recorded his first career NHL point in his debut on October 3, 2009.
Kane currently plays for the San Jose Sharks.
